Belgian Composer and Pianist
Yves Vermeire is a Belgian composer and pianist whose work connects contemporary classical writing with jazz-informed musicianship. He began playing piano and composing at a young age, developing a musical language centred on clarity, balance and natural harmonic progression. He has been described as an auspicious arranger by some of the most prominent educators and musical experts in the Belgian jazz scene.
“In search for expression in pure honesty, it has always been my aim to create harmonic material that develops itself naturally” – Yves Vermeire

Early Musical Development of the Composer
Vemeire’s musical journey started by playing the piano and composing his first works at the age of seven, inspired by classical music. During his teenage years, alongside playing the piano, he developed a passion for the bass guitar and gave his first performances after barely three months. Two years later, he worked as a session musician on the album ‘Dark Glitter’ (2008, Shiver Records) with the symphonic rock band Manic Movement (BE). However, chronic tendinitis forced him to stop all activities related to the bass guitar in 2009, after which he once again devoted himself fully to his first love, the piano.
Formal Education
He graduated with great honours from the Jazzstudio in Antwerp and continued his studies in jazz piano at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and Ghent, obtaining a degree in Performing Arts – Jazz with distinction. During his artistic development, he was mentored by Jef Neve and Michel Bisceglia, whose guidance further shaped his approach to musical structure and interpretation. His academic foundation, combined with mentorship from established musicians, shaped his development as both composer and performer. His training resulted in many performances at renowned clubs and national festivals, such as Jazz Brugge, Jazz Hoeilaart, Jazzenede Festival, Herbakkersfestival, Cultuurmarkt Vlaanderen and Jazz in ‘t Park Gent.
Compositions
As a composer of neoclassical music, Yves Vermeire creates original works rooted in proportion, transparency and gradual development. His writing often integrates minimalistic elements and jazz harmony within a clear architectural framework. In his neoclassical compositions, he is committed to structured expression rather than stylistic imitation.
Recording Project: One Heart
In 2019, the Belgian composer and pianist released ‘One Heart’ with ECLECTIV, under his own production (Alpha Root Records). For this project, he was the bandleader and focused on writing for an unconventional formation, which enabled him to push boundaries as an arranger. ECLECTIV resulted in a unique collaboration project with renowned guest artists (Kimberly Dhondt, Jean-Paul Estievenart) and combined modern jazz with funk, crossover, and influences from soul jazz.
After a short visit to Cape Town (South-Africa), ‘One Heart’ was enthusiastically received by the Belgian press and local radio stations.
“Beautiful compositions, excellent interpretations and a brilliant sound. With each listening turn, the outstanding One Heart draws attention to what is happening musically” – Geert Ryssen, Jazz Magazine
Unique Concert Concepts
Currently, Yves is in the process of preparing a brand-new solo project, scheduled to be launched in 2026. In addition to traditional recital settings, this Belgian pianist presents neoclassical music concerts, including lie-down performances beneath a glass roof under the visible night sky. These unique solo concerts centre on original compositions and are designed to enhance focused listening. Through carefully structured live programmes, the Belgian composer creates environments in which resonance, silence and spatial awareness become integral to the musical experience.

Personalised Education
Alongside his activity as composer and performer, Yves Vermeire has been active in teaching since 2009. He strongly believes in personalised education, adapting structure and content to the individual student. Having taught at institutions such as Jazzstudio Antwerp and various music academies, he combines professional experience with attentive mentorship. As both pianist and educator, he supports long-term musical development grounded in technical clarity and artistic understanding.
